Simple to make feta salad dressing recipe – all you need are just a few pantry staples and 5 minutes of your time. Creamy and savory, this Greek style Feta dressing goes well with green salads, made with crisp lettuce, but could be also used as a dip for veggies or even chicken tenders or wings.
Don’t mistake this Feta cheese dressing with Greek salad dressing. The two are completely different and can not be compared. This mayonnaise based Feta dressing is thick and chunky, flavorful and goes well with tomatoes, cucumbers, olives and even potatoes.
Feta cheese is one of these staple ingredients I always keep in the fridge.
Since I’ve been in Europe for a while, I have had access to some great quality Bulgarian, Greek and French cow’s and sheep’s milk cheese. I serve is with scrambled eggs, omelettes, crumble it on top of soups and salads or even use it in one of my current favorite pasta recipes – this Baked Feta Pasta (Tik Tok Viral). Looking for an unusual combination of flavors, that tastes amazing, then look into trying this Honey Feta Orzo recipe.
What kind of Feta can be used?
My whole family loves Feta cheese (some people more than others), so we purchase a large chunks of it and store in a salt and water brine in the fridge.
I mostly buy Bulgarian or Greek Feta cheese (either Cow’s or Sheep’s milk), depending on where I go shopping. Both cheeses have salty and tangy taste, but the Bulgarian is a little creamier.
You can use any crumbled store bought Feta cheese, if this is the only option you have.
How to make:
Ingredients:
- Mayonnaise
- Plain Greek yogurt or sour cream
- Feta cheese (I like to crumble it myself)
- Dill – optional, only if you like this herb
- Chives – optional, only if you like the taste and flavor of it and if you have it on hand
- Garlic (either fresh or powdered)
- Milk or water to thin the dressing
- Salt, Black Pepper and Oregano (optional)
Do you even need a food processor for this creamy dressing? If you are going after “smooth” texture, then yes, go ahead and put all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. This way the dressing will be runnier and smooth.
But if you happen to lie thicker dressings, that have the consistency of a “dip”, then you can just stir all ingredients together in a bowl, press the cheese to crumble even more and you are left with a thicker salad dressing consistency. In my recipe video, I did not use a food processor.
Best salad to serve with this Feta salad dressing
If you love Feta cheese, you are going to love this dressing and serve it on pretty much any salad you like. I’ve found that it goes well with green salads (lettuce, tomatoes, avocado, cucumbers, onions, corn, olives), tomato or cucumber salads. I have an Easy Tomato Feta Salad Recipe, that will pair well with this dressing.
This Tomato Cucumber and Spinach Salad will also do well with a thick and creamy dressing like this.
Can you make it in advance?
Since this feta salad dressing is made with fresh milk based ingredients (no extra preservatives), I wouldn’t make it more than 3 days in advance. Keep refrigerated in an airtight container at all times. It is best that you make a fresh batch of dressing, whenever you need it.
