Annual marches are scheduled for the streets of Tampa and Ruskin, while Brandon is set to launch its inaugural celebration. Brandon's first Veterans Day parade should step off at 11 a.m. Saturday in front of the post office at the intersection of Oakfield and Pauls drives before ending up at Cook Street and Margaret Street, said Madeleine Golletz, coordinator of the Veterans Day parade in Brandon. There are 56 units set to participate in the parade, HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY Pair leads law officers on chase TAMPA Sheriff's deputies teamed with state troopers to search for a man who led the Florida Highway Patrol on a brief chase through eastern Hillsborough County Thursday morning.
Edgardo Torres of the Highway Patrol said he and two other troopers were conducting a -routine roadblock on Morris Bridge Road when a tan Toyota Tercel heading toward them quickly turned around and sped away. A native and lifelong resident of the Tampa Bay area, Alvarez graduated from Our Lady of Perpetual Help High School, where he was presented with the American Legion Award for Outstanding Citizenship and Scholarship and received his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Tampa. De' For 30 years Alvarez served as state administrator for the Florida Department of Revenue. He was also the former president of Centro Espanol Hospital, where he served as chairman of the board of trustees. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Coast Guard.
He was a member of Centro Espanol and the Beta Chi Fraternity and a past member of the Holy Names Society at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
